Tony has coached cricket for 38 and bit years and has been a volunteer coach at Percy Main for about 30 years, having started playing for the club when he was 12 years old. He has played at a couple of other clubs but found himself back at the Main around 20 years ago.

In real life he has always been involved in sport, and coaching in particular. His first full time job was for Leisure Services at Harrogate Borough Council, after which he moved home to work for the Football Development scheme for 10 years in Newcastle. He then set up and managed the Newcastle Cricket Development Scheme for the next 8 years.

In 2010 he got a job at the England and Wales Cricket Board as a Regional Training Manager in Coach Education, then moved for a couple of years in the same company to National Coach Developer Network Lead. Both jobs for the ECB involved developing and delivering new cricket coaching courses, a bit of travelling to foreign lands and plenty of training across the country to prepare the National Coach Development delivery workforce for action.

In 2020 he started working for himself - Coaching, Mentoring and Player Development, with current work including

  • Volunteer Junior Coach Percy Main Cricket Club

  • Various Male and Female County Age Group Coaching with Northumberland U11s to Men and Women 1st Teams

  • National Coach Developer delivering Coach Educator Training for ECB

  • Assessor and mentor on ECB Advanced Course

  • Working with various Clubs/Counties helping coaches develop their craft

  • Some 1-2-1 Coaching with both players and coaches

  • Northern Diamonds Academy Wicket keepers

  • Coach Development Courses in various Counties and a couple of Universities

Club Roles
